Welcome!

Welcome to the website for Troop 158 in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts!  Serving the Scouting community  since 1989.

Troop 158 meets at St. Mary's Church (16 Summer Street) on Thursdays at 7:00 PM.  Meetings generally last 60 to 90 minutes depending on scheduled activities and planning requirements.  The Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters of 158 believe in empowering the young men of the troop to be responsible for organizing and managing weekly meetings, monthly camping trips, and the overall leadership structure of the troop.  This hands-on approach is accomplished through the direction, coaching, and support of the adult leadership.

If you would like to learn more about Troop 158, simply click on the About Us link.    If you would like to ask a question or would like to have an adult leader get in touch with you, click on the Contact Us link.  If you would simply like to learn more about Scouting, you can watch a video on the subject by clicking on this link: 100 Years of Scouting Video.

Calendar-At-A-Glance

Posted on Sep 2 2010 - 10:44pm

The Troop has developed a plan for the activities this coming year (see attached document).  The plans for a few of the months fell through, simply because the places that they had planned to visit would not be open.  The dates are still accurate, so please mark your calendars, and the Troop will let you know when all of the campout locations have been determined.

Important Change for this Week's Troop Meeting

Posted on Aug 30 2010 - 8:52pm

The first Troop Meeting of the upcoming Scouting season has been postponed until September 9th.  This meeting will include a very important Court of Honor to celebrate the transition to the new leadership, and to award all of the merit badges earned over the summer (especially those earned at summer camp).  Parents are urged to attend this special event.

This week's meeting will be used to plan for this month's campout, which will take place during the weekend of the 11th.  The location has yet to be confirmed (we can assure you that it will be a blast no matter where we go), so keep a close eye on the Troop website for announcements.  If Scouts wish to attend this month's campout, they should attend the meeting on Thursday, September 2nd at St. Mary's from 7 to 8.  The leadership will take this opportunity to plan menus, and other activities with the Scouts who plan to go.

Congratulations to Adam C. on achieving Eagle Scout!

Revised Information for Colin's Eagle Project - He Still Needs Your Help!

Posted on Aug 3 2010 - 12:59am

Due to the Troop's plan to campout at the Portsmouth Air Show during the weekend of August 27th, Colin has decided to changed the date for the last day of his project to August 22nd.  Here is the basic information for his project:

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Colin's project will be improving the Floral Street School Nature Trail in Shrewsbury. Fours sections of board walk will be installed in an area of the trail that is slowly eroding from heavy foot traffic and soft wet soil. An information board with a hand painted map will be mounted at the trail head replacing a less substantial one that has been removed. The Nature Trail consists of two separate unmarked trails. These two trails will be marked with unique blazes which correspond to the trail head map. Dead wood and large limbs have fallen from the trees blocking the trail. The larger logs will be cleared from the trail and used to create habitats for small species of wildlife such as salamanders, insects, and plant life that the school children investigate under the guidance of their teachers. Removing these branches and tree limbs will also reduce unknown hazards to all who walk the trail.

PROJECT DATES:

July 31, 2010: REVISED: Since lumber was not delivered on time, trails will simply be cleared and marked.

August 21, 2010: REVISED: Begin construction of the footbridges and painting of the sign for the trail head.

August 22, 2010: REVISED: Return to Floral Street School where the foot bridges will be put in place and the sign mounted.

The work times will be from 10:30 to 4:30 and lunch will be provided all work days.
